What a success!

Thank you to all of the parents and families that came to the Year 1 expo today! It was fantastic to see the students so excited to show of all of their hard work. After the parents left, some Prep and Year 2 classes came to learn about what we have done this term in inquiry. The Year 1s answered questions thoughtfully and explained their work clearly.

Multiplication and Division

In Maths this term we have been learning about multiplication and division. For division we have shared people evenly onto a ferris wheel and fairly shared lollies into lolly bags. It wouldn’t be fair if everyone doesn’t get the same amount of lollies! For multiplication we made an array town and city. The windows demonstrated the array and we wrote multiplication sums and number stories to match.

Construction in Year 1!

The Year 1 students have designed a project for inquiry inspired by our excursion to Edendale Farm. Today we started to build our prototypes. Some children are making chicken coops, goat, lizard and cow enclosures and different bins such as green waste, compost and recycling.

The students were very excited and focused while they were building but there was a big mess to clean up at the end of the day!

Thank you to everyone who sent boxes into school and we are looking forward to sharing our creations with you soon.

Welcome Back to Term 4

We hope everyone enjoyed the school holidays and had lots of rest!

This term the whole school Big Idea is ‘Sustainability’. Year 1 will be focusing on food going from ‘paddock to plate’. We will be going on an excursion on Tuesday the 30th of October to Edendale Farm to learn about where veggies come from, composting and worm farms, recycling and food miles.

In Maths we are continuing to work on counting patters such as counting by 2s, 5s and 10s. We are beginning to learn about about time. It would be great if you worked with your child on telling the time and reciting the months of the year. Even periods of time eg. “how long does it take to play football?”

We hope you enjoy the term and keep up the good work reading every night with your child.

Year 1 Incursion and Book Week

The Year 1 students had a great time at the Science Discovery Dome this week. Here are some of their thoughts:

“I learnt that if the Earth doesn’t move that it would take a year to go to night time. I want to learn about how many stars there are.”

“I learnt that the weather on the South Pole is the same as the closest country near the sun. I want to learn why was the moon is out at lunch time.”

I learnt why other countries have summer when Australia does not. I want to learn why the sun is bigger than Earth.”

Book Day!

Tomorrow is Book Day. We will be having a Year 1 parade at 9.15am on the basketball courts outside our rooms. We would love to see you there!
