Market Week

Dear Parents / Guardians,

There is only two more weeks until LPS’s Market Week. This term the Year 6 students have been learning about economics. We have worked hard to create stalls selling many goods and services. Some of the exciting games on offer include mini-hoop basketball, soccer top targets, coin toss games, ping pong games and paper plane throwing competitions. Some of the fabulous products on offer include popcorn, baked goods, snow cones, milkshakes and fairy floss. Prices range from 50c to $2 per activity/product. Most children do like to buy something, but if you do not want your child to buy anything, do not send any money. We do talk about families being different and people having different treats. Please make sure money is in a named purse or bag, (ziplock is fine), as change is easy to lose and this causes distress.

The stalls will be held during lunchtimes in Week 8 of term and each year level has an allocated day of when they can attend.

Year 1 & 2 – Tuesday 22nd Nov

Year 3 & 4 – Wednesday 23rd Nov

Year 5 – Thursday 24th Nov

Prep – Friday 25th Nov

The money raised from the stalls will contribute to the end of year celebrations for the Year 6s. We look forward to seeing the students there!

Science Week

This week was Science Week. To celebrate, the Grade 1 students worked with Grade 5 students to build a spectroscope. We were able to see different colours that make up light. Rainbows shows us the colours that make up white light.

Market Week

From Tuesday the 25th November to Friday the 28th November, the Grade Sixes are going to host Market Week which is where all Grade Six Students open up a stall and run a business. We have been learning about economics and are putting our skills into practice. Each year level gets to come along and purchase from these stalls at lunchtime on their designated day.  Some of the stores are minute to win it games, hair salon, DIY sherbet and slime, paper plane throwing, nail painting, food stalls but there are so many more too. The money raised from Market Week goes towards the Grade Sixes’ Fun Day and Graduation. Fun Day is the last celebration the Grade Sixes have together before they all go to high school.  Please help the Grade Sixes raise money so they can have a really enjoyable Fun Day.

Please bring coins and no more than $10.

Our swimming program has begun with a bang! The students have enjoyed every session and it is great for the teachers to see them in a different light and watch them achieve and develop their swimming skills. Thank you to those parents who have assisted on the bus and in the change rooms. We could not go ahead with the program without you! You are most welcome to come to the pool during our swimming sessions but are reminded that photos and videos are not to be taken during these lessons.

Thank you for your cooperation.

LPS Passport Night

Laburnum Primary School will be opening up the school on the evening of Wednesday 27th August 2014 to give parents an insight into the many facets of their child’s learning. There will be a variety of educational sessions covering topics such as horizontal to vertical multiplication, homework, time management, study habits and parental support, school planning documents, team planning and AusVELS, Digital Excellence program (DEA), Cybersafety, Early Years Literacy, How to write an exposition and writing development as part of the school’s strategic plan, PE (Ball catching manipulation and connection to curriculum,) Science and even how to use BPay.

These topics will give you an insight into the “what” and the “how” of many aspects of learning that your child encounters in the course of a day at LPS.

You will need to collect your passport and choose your four 12 minute topic sessions, and then head to the first session. From there you will have your passport stamped ready to move on to your next session. Once your passport has collected four stamps you can put it into the draw for some AMAZING LPS prizes!

WOW what an incredible opportunity to take advantage of!

Come along and join in, we would love to see you be a part of Literacy, Numeracy and Science Week at LPS.
